Life has been busy

Just wanted to say “Thank you” for all the prayers and well wishes. Brooke had her surgery on September 30 as planned. The surgery was expected to last 1 ½ but took much longer. So naturally we were getting quite nervous and impatient. At 2 ½ hours the doctor came out and said everything was great and she was fine, said a lot more but hey who’s listens after they say all is good?

After leaving the hospital she slept for most of the day, we did wake her up around 4:00 to feed her. She stayed up for a few hours mostly sitting in my lap, and then we put pack to bed. She slept the rest of the night. Friday she very well and by Saturday she was back to normal.

Right now she is doing great and is expected to stay that way.

I was able to squeeze in a ride this past weekend and will try and update on that soon.

What's going to happen to me????

OK, I ready..... I think!

In recovery, please don't wake me you won't like the outcome!!!! Just saying.

Aaaahhh so comfy!!!! SSSHHHHH be very quite please!! The calm be for the storm.

1 week later, all better. Love my M&M's!!!!

Eye surgery and few updates

Brooke's eye surgery was postponed today and rescheduled to Sept 30. Bristin got her braces off Sept 13. See pic at right on Flickr.

Rode a few weeks ago, was very hot. It was the first time I took my bike on the ferry. Haven't been on the ferry in 30+ years. It was Kims first time to ride the ferry.

Still in a funk. Don't know what else to say.

God Bless and Pray for our Troops.

Lots going on

I have wanted to post for a while but just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I am still been here reading everyone else post, just staying quite, depressed, stressed and board. Have some tough decisions to make, not riding hardly at all. So here goes…..

1. Brooke my youngest has an eye problem called Esotropia. The short version is the muscles are tight and either one eye is pulled in and twisting up or the other one is. We have had several appointments with two doctors and both say the same thing, surgery is the only option. So on September 16 my baby girl will have the muscles on both eyes cut off and reattached. The good news it’s day surgery and will back to normal activity in a day or so.
2. For the last two years we have not been getting bonuses at work, though that in it would be OK. I did not plan on (budget) a baby (daycare, diapers, formula……). I am now broke, savings is completely gone. So at the end of the month either the bike goes back to Harley or I file bankruptcy. If I file bankruptcy I may still lose the bike. What to do….
3. Could not sell my house. This causes a problem not because of the money, but now my daughter will have to go to a horrible HS. For the last 3 years she has been staying with my sister during the week and coming home on the weekends while we try and sell so she could go to a good school. That is no longer an option. She is back home where she belongs. All her friends have gone to a different HS, leaving her pretty much a new kid at her first year of HS.

Still have more to tell, but my lunch break is over. I will try to get to the rest when I can.

Biker and reporter

A Harley biker is riding by the zoo in Washington, DC when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion's cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the collar of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.

The biker jumps off his Harley, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly. A reporter has watched the whole event.

The reporter addressing the Harley rider says, 'Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I've seen a man do in my whole life.'

The Harley rider replies, 'Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger and acted as I felt I should.'

The reporter says, 'Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a journalist, you know, and tomorrow's paper will have this story on the front page...
So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have?'

The biker replies, 'I'm a U.S. Marine and a Republican.'

The journalist leaves.

The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on the front page:

That pretty much sums up the media's approach to the news these days.

BBQ Quest - Snow's in Lexington Texas

In my never ending quest to find the best BBQ in Texas, the Katy Rattlers meet-up group was heading to Lexington, Tx. on Saturday morning. E-mailed a couple riding friends that I knew would be up for the long ride. We meet at 6:45am and headed to Rattlers meet-up location, we were able to get there by 7am and KSU at 7:15. The ride started out sunny and hot then 45min in the ride we hit some fog that kept us cool for about 30 miles.

We arrived at Snow’s BBQ around 10:45 and I noticed a line out the door. Having not done any research prior to the ride, I quickly got up to speed. Snow’s is only open on Saturday and they only cook enough to stay open until 12ish, so if you don’t get there in time too bad. They are not located near any major city so it is a good ride/drive for most. We waited in line for 30min before we could get inside. Once inside you were at the counter and only a few people away from ordering. The building is just a shack in size, but well maintained. I noticed lots were buying by the pound, not having away to bring home leftovers I had the 2 meat plate. Brisket and sausage were my choice of meat and it came with bread, coleslaw and potato salad, add a drink and my bill was just under $15.00. We decided to eat inside and found they only have 6 patio benches that hold 6 bikers each with more outside.

OK now for the food review. I'm not going to say this is the best BBQ in Texas but it is pretty F'n good. If you can tell me a better place I will be happy to compare. The meat was so tender you could cut it with a fork. One person did complain that is was too salty and too much fat. All I can say is my plate was clean and my belly was full. Also noticed everyone else finished and what they didn’t they sure wanted to take home.

I told my wife and dad about it, looks like I am drive there this weekend……

Somehow I managed to forget my camera and only have a few from my phone and friends.

The line waiting to get in.

Me standing by the sign.
Relaxing after we ate. Back of Snow's BBQ.

The ride up.

Smart ass kid

My teacher asked me what my favorite animal was. I said, "Fried chicken." She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right because everyone else in the class laughed.

My parents told me to always be truthful and honest, and I am. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals very much. I do, too, especially chicken, pork and beef.

Anyway, my teacher sent me to the Principal's office. I told him what happened, and he laughed too. Then he told me not to do it again. The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, just like she'd asked the other children. So I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the Principal's office again. He laughed, and told me not to do it any more. I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I am.

Today, my teacher asked us to tell her what famous person we admire most. I told her, "Colonel Sanders". You can guess where I am now.

Super busy

Been busy with life. Looking back I haven’t even had a chance to write about my last rally. We had a great time and are heading out to another rally this weekend. Will try to find some pictures that can published here. I will do my best to get you caught up when we return.

You have two families: "Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal".
Both families have two parents, two children, and live in California .

Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes $25.00 per hour with taxes deducted.

Jose Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table".

Ready? Now pay attention...

Joe Legal: $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week, or $52,000.00 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal taxes; Joe Legal now has $31,231.00.

Jose Illegal: $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week, or $31,200.00 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays medical and dental insurance with limited coverage for his family at $600.00 per month, or $7,200.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $24,031.00.

Jose Illegal has full medical and dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for food stamps or welfare. Joe Legal pays $500.00 per month for food, or $6,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $18,031.00.

Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for food stamps and welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,200.00 per month, or $14,400.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $9,631.00.

Jose Illegal receives a $500.00 per month federal rent subsidy. Jose Illegal pays out that $500.00 per month, or $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $ 31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays $200.00 per month, or $2,400.00 for insurance. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00.

Jose Illegal says, "We don't need no stinkin' insurance!" and still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal has to make his $7,231.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, etc.

Jose Illegal has to make his $31,200.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, and what he sends out of the country every month.

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work.

Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school. Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches whileJose Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch. Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program. Joe Legal's children go home.

Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same police and fire services, but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay.

Do you get it, now?

If you vote for or support any politician that supports illegal aliens... You are part of the problem!

It's way PAST time to take a stand for America and Americans!

Growing up

Well it has come to pass; my first teenager just got another year older (14) on Friday. Saturday marked her 8th grade dance. I know I still have a ton off teen stuff ahead, but I couldn’t help to be a little sad and yet a little excited. Momma was very excited, more so then our daughter I think. She told me this is when memories start. Heck I thought they started when she was born, but that’s just me. And she said I just don’t understand. Well I do understand she is growing up and I love it and hate it. When she was still a little grade school girl I would threat’n to put a brick on her head so she would stop growing. And now as I see her blossom every day, I can’t help but to wish she will stop. In just one month she will be graduating Junior High and moving on to High school and I am so NOT ready for that. God grant me the strength. She is still my baby girl! Even though we have a 14 month old she will always be my baby. She is growing in more ways than I care to look at but I’m afraid if I don’t I will miss it. No way could I live with that.

So far her choice in boyfriends has been good. Her current one seems to be very nice and respectful. And just so no-one thinks I’m getting to soft with this mushy stuff. He better be else he will get a 10 ½ boot upside his head. She maybe growing up but I’m growing even more PROTECTIVE!!!! (insert evil laugh here)

Lazy weekend

The weather guessers said 60% chance of rain Saturday and Sunday. I saw no rain on Saturday and totally missed out on some riding because of it. I got really bored around 3pm and decided I was going to ride regardless what they were saying. As soon as I started my bike my son came running down the stairs and bolted out the door.
Dad, Dad where are you going? he asked.
Dun’no, just need to ride.
Can I go too?
Sure, but we might get wet.
Ok grab your helmet.
And we were off headed nowhere special. Found only one new road that looked interesting, but it wasn’t. We rode for about an hour and I could tell he was getting fidgety. So I headed on home. No pictures, just long lasting memories. We never did hit any rain. Sunday it rained it’s ass off and I sat at home and watched Lord Of the Ring, all three of them.
Next weekend is Hawgs of Texas rally. Can’t wait!!

What a great feeling

Sunday I cleaned my bike, had to be done after Saturday’s ride. I removed the windshield as I have done several times, but this time I didn’t put it back on. After I finished cleaning, I jumped on for a quick ride. IT FELT GREAT to ride like this again. It brought me back to when I was first riding. Had totally forgot how good if feels. I don’t know how long I will leave it off though one thing is for sure it will come off more often. Maybe I will remove it for my work day rides and reinstall it for the weekend rides. Some of these Texas bugs are so big you could ride’em. Which is why I installed a windshield to begin with. The last time I rode some of our country back roads, I got nail three times on my face in the same spot. Had a welt the size of a fist. Lol

Anyhow I highly recommend removing your windshield from time to time. Give it a try you might just like it.

We meet a lot new peps today. There was over 30 riders today, and unfortunately I didn't get to meet all of them. Had an excellent time, I always want to ride in a large group. I can say I did it but I'm not sure if I will do it again. I spent most of my time watching the bikes in front and behind me making sure I wouldn't get in to trouble. The stops were good and I could relax.

The forecast stated no rain and in the upper 70's. Yeah right. Started off cold and wet and never completely dried out even after the sun came out. Last thing I said to my wife "leave your rain gear, we won't need it". I'll never tell her that again....
Good thing I had mine. lol

Catching-up a little

Riding season is in full swing here. I haven’t had the chance to ride much way too much stuff going on. A side from riding to work I have only been on one ride thus far. It was a good ride with good friends, took me too few places I hadn’t been. So that was cool. I am REALLY looking forward to this weekend. I joined a group of fellow riders from meetup.com. This will be the first of what I hope to be many rides with them. I will let you know how it goes.

Last weekend we took Brooke to gather up Easter-eggs. She wasn’t sure what to do and only got 2 eggs and one was given to her. Maybe she will do better next year. We had to get her glasses because of a lazy eye and it’s been very hard keeping them on her. So we had to add another nickname to her already long list of names, Nerdy baby. Some of her others are, but not limited to Harley baby, Harley girl, Carrot top, Strawberry and too many to list.

The blue Bonnets are blooming so we took all the kids to see them and take pictures.

Work is picking-up big time and of course that’s good. Just hope they will start giving us our bonuses again.

My knee doesn’t seem to be getting much better so I may have to have surgery...again.

Please continue to pray for our troops.

Power Commander

Installed a Power Commander on my bike last Thursday and have been wanting to give it a good run ever since. I never got a chance to because I spent Saturday loading it on a trailer. So besides riding home from work after installing the commander, my bike has just sat there waiting on me. One year ago I installed Vance and Hines Big shots staggered (really like the way it sounds), then I installed a better air filter for flow, but this caused a little back fire. So for the last year I have been saving my pennies and living with the back fire.

I went on a ride today along with my son in tow. And I am happy to say the back fire is gone. The weather was a little cool out but no matter. We only got to ride for 45min at hwy speeds and I could really feel the difference. It ran absolutely great. It’s too early to tell if I am saving any gas.

Looks like Saturday will be a good day to ride. So I will find a sitter and take my wife for a ride with a few friends. The plan is to go to the Crawfish Shack, how we get there is open. By car it would take one hour, but I’m sure we can find a longer route. If all goes well I should have some pictures to post next week.

Have a great weekend!!!

Well I did it, but don’t know why

So I took a friends and mine bike to a rally this weekend in a trailer. I spent 1hr going to get the trailer, 30min loading my bike and strapping it down just right. When my friend showed up it took over an hour to get his loaded so they wouldn’t be banging into each other. As we take off I see my bikes front end move. Checked the straps and somehow one came loose, no problem no damage. Fixed it and went on our way. Five miles or so I see my friend’s bike moving we pull over and one of his straps is broken. We managed to make it an auto parts store grabbed another strap and got going. So now we are about two hours behind where I wanted to be. When we arrived and checked in, we started looking for a place to unload.

I found a nice place to park and started to un-strap the bikes. As we started I was looking around and noticed all of the action was not very far from where we were and decided to walk over and see what was going on. We could always come back later to get the bikes. Well needless to say that never happened. Yep went to a bike rally and never used our bikes.

The rally wasn’t all that but we still managed to have a good time. I would say there were maybe a thousand people in attendance.

Going to do the unthinkable

Yep never thought I would. I am going to a rally on Sat. with a friend. Texas Independence Day Rally in Groesbeck. I will be umm err trailering my bike there. There I said it, though I don’t feel better. The ride will only be 3hrs but unfortunately I will not be staying the night, so instead of taking a chance with the deer, armadillo’s and other such night creators for the ride home. I feel it best to take my truck. I have never been to this rally before and am very anxious to see what it will be like.

That’s all I have for now. If all goes well I will have lots of pictures to post on Monday.

Here is the link if anyone wants to go. thehotrally.com

drawing a plank

What to write about! I could talk about our Governors race, but that bores the hell out of me. Seems more and more I will be voting against someone instead of for someone. Basically ALL our choices suck and we need to get rid of all 545 and start over. Just saying!! I could talk about the rally is weekend, but I screwed up on the dates and the rally is next weekend and I have to work this weekend. I have a special project at work this weekend if I do a good job I will save our company a few thousand $$. Not a lot but every little bit helps and brownie points for me! I could talk about the economy, but I don’t know what more I could add to all the talks.

As of right now my family is good, my job is good (although I’m not getting any bonuses), my wife’s job is good, my bike is running good, kids are getting good grades in school (first time in awhile), my leg is getting better all the time, and the coffee I just made taste great!

Hope you have a good day and I will try and figure out something to talk about.

Weekend summery

This weekend didn’t go as planned. Went to the b-day party on sat, and then went for a ride that lasted for couple hours. I was able to meet up with a friend that had been riding all day. Rode with him and his wife for awhile then we headed home.

That night we had dinner with my parents at Olive Garden, it was good. And to think I didn’t use to like Italian food! Had a 45min wait to get in, guess the economy has slowed down? We used to wait an hour or more. My leg got a little tiered and sore from standing and holding Brooke, but that’s to be expected (from my broken leg/knee). I have almost no limp now so that’s good.

Sunday took the kids to the park got a lot good pictures.

Photo Shoot

If the weather is nice this weekend, I will be taking my daughter and a couple of her friends on a photo shoot. My daughter has two friends that love to go out and take pictures and now she is developing this interest as well. Guess she comes by it honestly. I will be picking up an older camera to test and see if she wants it. I think this weekend I will take them downtown to see what they can come up with. If all goes well I will have plenty of pictures to post.

Sunday time permitting I will get back in the saddle and go for a ride. I need to get back on the open road as it has been be too long. I broke my left leg in November then 2 weeks later I fell down the stairs and broke both my wrist. I have ridden a few times since then, mostly just shorts rides. So I am ready and very anxious to get back to it. I will let you know how it goes!

This is an e-mail i sent to my wife after talking to my daughter on the phone when she got home from school. The precursor to this is she had a big time melt down the day before and lost cell phone privileges. Now she has lost privileges before but never has been this nice and sweet in all her thirteen yrs. She usually will just wait it out or argue.
The e-mail is caps only because our computer system at work uses caps and I forget to switch back and forth.

Sunday Ride

The sun was and starting to warm up a bit. So I decided it was time to get my bike clean again. The last time I rode was a month ago and it was cold and wet out. Needless to say Vivian was very dirty. Bryce came out to play; first he got out his skateboard then his bike. Went up and down the street a few times but mostly just hung around me. He finally asked me if I was going to ride because he wanted too. So with that I stopped cleaning and fired her up. Momma came out with the camera and got a few shots of us before we headed out.

As you can see he was exited to be riding again as was I. It was only a short ride maybe 20mins more or less, but it was all I needed to recharge my battery for the week. It felt great!!!!!

Celebrated my baby girls first birthday yesterday. Had lots of family and few friends show up for her. She didn’t know what to think with all these people coming over, she clung to me like never before.

My dad (rt) enjoying party.

Brooke not sure what to make of this cake.

Daddy giving a helping hand.

Now She likes it.

And not to be out done by a 1yr old Bristin and Courtney had to join in!!

I have moved and am starting over. Welcome to my little piece of cyber. The reason for the move is really not important, but if you must know. I didn't like my address anymore that’s it nothing more. I figured this was as good a time as any to move. I have been dubbed Cameraman by my riding buddies and wanted the blog to reflect that. This is mostly due to that fact when we go motorcycle rallies I take a LOT of pictures.

I have a Cannon T1I DSLR camera. Some people would classify this as a professional camera, fact is it's not. It can do a lot of the same stuff and takes excellent pictures as a professional camera, but I would say its one step below. So my hopes are to upgrade within the next few years.

If you are interested you can see a lot of my pictures on Flickr. These will mostly consist of family, friends, rides and rallies. Let me warn you some of the rally pictures are of adult nature and you will have to ask for my permission to see them for obvious reasons.

This blog is going to be mostly random stuff. From my past experience I would say the majority will be about family, friends, rides and rallies. Umm I guess just like the pictures I take.

I hope you will enjoy this, love to hear your comments and suggestions.

Back up and running

I have been away for way to long. I will get in to that later. Let me just say this, I have healed almost back to normal. Still have a slight limp though, but the Dr. says it should go away.

The tickets and been bought and the rooms have been booked. ROT rally is not until June 10-13, we have already got the ball rolling. If you have never been to the ROT this is the BIGGEST rally Texas has to offer. It should be another great year there. There are tons of stuff to do. Though I have noticed they don’t have very many events scheduled thus far, no matter we don’t go them. We spend most of the day riding in the hill country and then spend the nights at the rally grounds. Should have lots of pictures to share on my Flickr account. If you don’t have a Flickr account the first 100mb are free and uses your Yahoo account login.

When to Republic HD to spend some Christmas cash, gift card that was given to me. They were having a test rides for a free Snuggy. Had to be the worst day possible the weather was 30°. Not one to pass a free ride and stuff, I took out a Street glide. I was really too cold to get in a good test ride so I’ll have to come back and ride it again when it’s a little warmer outside. What I could tell from the short ride all indications is this will be my next bike, but time will tell. Guess it was really slow that day because they gave me two Snuggies. Lol

That’s all I have for now. See you at ROT.
